Excellent and comprehensive blog post, Barbara. I’ve always felt that a good editor can elevate good writing to excellent writing while a great editor can take it up a notch to great content. It’s difficult to improve poor writing. Good editors struggle, but great editors can take poor writing and at least make it palatable. So many writers fail to see the value in hiring an editor, especially self-publishing book authors. In my mind, editors are an essential part of the publishing process.
