Archived Email - Traffic Case Study (Part One)

So...

In my last email, I promised you a case study about a newbie blogger who got 56K visitors within 60 days.

Here's the first part. Tomorrow, I'll give you the second part, and so on.

Why break it up?

Because there's a lot to learn. If I tried to give it all to you in one email, you'd never read the whole thing.

This way, it's more digestible. Also gives you time to think about what I'm teaching you.

The first thing you need to know:

The "newbie blogger" I mentioned?

About eight years ago, that was me. The screenshot I showed you was from my first successful blog, On Moneymaking.

Google it if you want. I don't own the blog anymore, though. I sold it a long time ago.

The point...

Everybody starts out as a newbie. Everybody.

Back then, I was just another clueless nobody trying to figure out blogging like everybody else.

And honestly?

I was lost.

For three years, I meandered around the Internet, reading articles, listening to interviews, and buying courses.

First, I was fascinated with SEO. I learned all about keyword research and on-page optimization.

After that, it was bookmarking sites like StumbleUpon and Reddit. Next, it was Twitter.

And on and on.

I jumped from one tactic to another, getting excited, reading everything I could about it, but then I would come across another tactic and chase after that.

I never actually "did" much, but it wasn't because I was lazy. It was because I was trying to understand.

Online, nobody likes to give you the complete picture. You end up running from one guru to another, getting one puzzle piece here, another puzzle piece there...

You tell yourself that you're piecing it all together. Soon, you'll have all the pieces, you'll understand how it works, and you can get started.

But here's what nobody tells you:

There isn't just one puzzle. You can spend years gathering all the pieces, but they will never fit together, because they aren't from the same box!

In reality, there are five boxes. Five puzzles. Five grand traffic strategies that have NOTHING to do with each other.

Want to know what they are?

Well, just make five easy payments of $99, and...

No, I'm just kidding. ;-)

I'll give you all five strategies right now. Here they are:

Strategy #1: become friends with influential people, and convince them to promote you.

Strategy #2: write the best content ever published for a topic, and get people talking about it.

Strategy #3: build a tribe of raving fans, and then ask them to share their content with their friends.

Strategy #4: join an existing community, become a leader, and spread your content to its members

Strategy #5: pay for advertising to get your content in front of the right people.

That's it. Those are the only five strategies.

And here's the important point...

Notice I didn't say anything about Google or Facebook or Pinterest. I didn't mention SEO or social media or email marketing.

Why?

Because all that stuff changes.

The sources of traffic change. The tactics for generating traffic change.

But the strategies... those stay the same. They NEVER change.

The trick is figuring out which one is best for you.

Personally, I had to be told.

I'd love to say I discovered all five of those strategies on my own. I wrote them down in a secret manual, and then I followed that manual to perfection...

But that would be bullshit.

The truth is, I was lost as hell, and another blogger had to sit me down and talk some sense into me.

His name was Chris Garrett. Google him. One of the nicest guys in the world.

The amazing thing?

Chris figured me out. After listening to me rant for a while he just straight up told me, "Jon, there are lots of ways to get traffic, but here's the one that's right for you."

And he was right.

How did he know which strategy I should follow? What were the factors he considered? How do you know which strategy is right for you?

We'll get into that tomorrow. :-)

In the meantime though, I'm curious...

Which strategy do you think I used?

Reply to this email and give me the number from the strategies above.

In the meantime, stop feeling guilty if you've been running around in circles for the past few years. It's not your fault.

And besides...

I ran around in circles for three years myself, but things turned out okay for me.

Those 56K visitors were just the beginning. Since then, I've pulled in another 200 million visitors across my sites.

Hard to wrap your mind around, right?

Me too.

Point is, you can run around in circles for years, but once somebody puts you on the right path, there's nothing stopping you. You can take off like a rocket.

Chris did that for me. Now I'm doing it for you.

You just have to open your email tomorrow, and we'll dive a little bit deeper.

Until then, reply back and tell me which strategy you think I tackled first. If you get it right, I might mention you in the next email. Give you a little taste of fame. ;-)

Talk more tomorrow.

Jon
